Senseo 7810 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black

Product Description

Senseo black single serve coffee appliance has a unique patented pressurized brewing system that brews a fresh cup of coffee in just 30 seconds.

Amazon.com Review

Uniquely designed, this coffeemaker brews a single serving of fresh gourmet coffee at the touch of a button. Because the machine uses premeasured coffee pods, the system is hassle-free, is easy to clean, and guarantees a flavorful, fresh brew each time. Measuring 13-1/2 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches, the coffeemaker is shaped like a curved cylinder with a round base. Two pod holders are included: a shallow holder that holds one coffee pod for one cup, and a deeper filter that holds two pods for two cups (or one 8-ounce mug). After filling the removable reservoir with fresh water to the "max" line, the pods are inserted and the lid locked into place. A simple push of the "on/off" button and either of the one- or two-cup buttons starts the brewing process. Up to five 4-ounce cups can be brewed on one reservoir of water. Cups are not included, but almost any 4-ounce cup or 8-ounce mug will do the trick. All the removable parts--the pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray--are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker carries a 1-year limited warranty and a variety of coffee pods are available separately. Also, Senseo was awarded the ChefsBest award for best performing single-serve coffee appliance. The ChefsBest Award for Performance is awarded to the brand rated highest overall among leading brands by independent professional chefs. --Ann Bieri

From the Manufacturer

The Senseo coffeemaker combines an integrated brewing system from Philips Electronics with high quality coffee pods from Sara Lee’s Douwe Egberts brand, one of Europe’s premiere coffee brands for more than 250 years, to create a perfect cup of coffee. The result of over 7 years of research and development, this coffeemaker brews a consistent, balanced cup of coffee each time with a unique frothy coffee layer. Brewing a sensational cup of fresh, gourmet coffee every time, at the touch of a button, the Senseo is perfect for coffee lovers of all varieties.

The Senseo's mild pressure system heats water to 205 degrees fahrenheit in a boiler consistently every time. Via the mild pressure system, the heated water is forced through the machine and is evenly distributed over the pre-measured coffee pod(s.) Exiting through a pinhole in the pod tray, the newly brewed Senseo coffee is projected into the base of the patented "frothing chamber" where it is lightly aerated to produce the frothy coffee layer. The machine brews at 1.2 bars. Espresso machines typically brew at 9 bars or higher and drip brewers do not use pressure. The machine then distributes either individual or double servings of gourmet Senseo coffee simultaneously--the whole process taking on average only 45 seconds.

Easy to Use, Flavorful Results

The Senseo is simple to use--start by filling the handy removable reservoir up to the "max" line. Then, insert the pods you are using, and lock the lid into place. Next, push the "on/off" button and the brewing process begins with either one or two cups. You can brew up to five 4-ounce cups on a single reservoir of water. To make clean up easy, the removable parts, including pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray, are dishwasher-safe.

Senseo offers a varied selection of blends and flavors. In addition to the first four original blends, Mild, Medium, Dark, and Decaffeinated, you can also choose from Paris Vanilla Bistro, Killarney Irish Creamery, Vienna Hazelnut Waltz, Senseo Sumatra, and Senseo Cappuccino. Senseo Cappuccino‘s specially designed pod contains premium coffee with a separate layer of creamer housed in an innovative "honeycomb" to ensure it blends evenly with the coffee. The result is an extra luxurious cappuccino, at the touch of a button, with no extra steps involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, April 14, 2010

This review is from: Senseo 7810 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black (Kitchen)
We have this machine, bought in 2004 and used 2-3 times a day. It still works fine, but it's white and we wanted a black one to match our new kitchen appliances. So the old one goes into storage in case the new one breaks down.

There are a lot of so-called "single-serving" coffee makers on the market today. My wife and I have been very select coffee drinkers all our marriage - nearly 30 years. We started with a beautiful La Pavoni expresso maker, which we still have although we had it completely overhauled about 8 years ago.

When we saw the Senseo we thought we'd try it because it seemed much less trouble - although we were highly suspicious of anything that made coffee from "pods" because we were used to grinding our own coffee from beans stored in air-tight containers in the freezer and each cup of coffee we made was made from freshly ground beans.

From the very beginning we were impressed with the Senseo. Push a button and 90 seconds later... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient & fun, October 24, 2009
By
Music Mama Rob (Cos Cob, CT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Senseo 7810 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black (Kitchen)
I received the Senseo coffee maker as a birthday gift 2 years ago and use it almost daily. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and hate to waste a full pot of coffee if all I want is one or two cups. Making coffee with a Melitta one-cup filter is just too much work compared to the simplicity of the Senseo coffee maker.

The Senseo coffee maker has a reservoir that is easy to fill, and the pods are very convenient to just drop into the pod holder. Two tips I picked up from a single-serve review web site:

1: Pre-moisten the coffee pod so that the edges seal better to the holder, and

2: Preheat your milk so that the milk doesn't cool the coffee when it pours into your cup. I preheat my milk for 30 seconds in the microwave, easy to do while the water is warming up.

I like being able to make a quick double for my travel mug when I'm running late--much faster than driving to Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks and not knowing how long the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for espresso, design problems with coffee, compare with Keurig, January 28, 2010
By
This review is from: Senseo 7810 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black (Kitchen)
For the most part I love the coffee that comes out of my Senseo. Unfortunately there's too little of it.

Before you start railing against over-sized everything, look at your coffee cup. I bet it's a 12 ounce cup, or at least a 10. A 4 oz cup is an espresso cup, tiny, great for espresso, too small for coffee.

So, it takes 2 pods to brew an 8oz cup. I've lived in Japan, and it'd be perfect for the way they drink coffee, but not the way people seem to drink it in the states. Mug in the morning to get going, mug mid day to keep going. Two "cups" of coffee would mean using six senseo pods in a day, every day.

The coffee is delicious, rich, soft... yes its crema. Very yummy. But it costs roughly 40 cents per 8oz, depending on which pods you buy and where.

My buddy gave me his Senseo machine because it was impractical to fill a travel mug with it, and it only filled his coffee mugs (12oz) 2/3 with the 8oz max pour (yes, you could do... Read more

This is a great little brewer for anyone who wants to brew just one quick cup or when you don't need to make a full pot. I use it when I leave early AM for the airport hours before the family wakes up. Green Tree supplies this unit with 50 pods of terrific coffee too. It's fast, quiet, and I think I'll easily save the cost of this brewer in coffee we don't pour out down the drain. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Important note to users getting watery coffee, October 28, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart Commercial 1-cup Coffeemaker - Black
I've had this brewer for over a year, and for the first few weeks was intensely disappointed in the watered down coffee it was producing. On the top of the machine it says "Fill water tank with COLD water". It took me awhile to realize that THIS is the secret of the machine. Something to do with the heating of the water slows it's drip through the pod. You get a much better cup of coffee if you use water from your refrigerator. It's still not a top of the line device, but it's good for it's price if follow this tip.
And [...] has good quality and service for pod ordering.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice and compact unit but makes weak coffee!, January 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Cuisinart Commercial 1-cup Coffeemaker - Black
I agree with Nancy Lind's review that the coffee that comes out of this little maker is very weak. If you like the flavor of a strong cup of coffee this isn't the unit for you. What I do like about it is its small size. I bought it for my desk at work and it fits perfectly and it's really easy to use. The instructions say not to use more than one pod at a time but I think I may have to. I'm just a little bit disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mild but not Bland or Tasteless, August 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Timothy's World Coffee, Breakfast Blend K-Cups for Keurig Brewers, 50 Count Box (Grocery)
Currently, this is the only K-Cup 50 pack listed as "mild" on Amazon. I was expecting something with only a little flavor and bitterness, but these K-Cups surprised me. They're not as strong as the bold or extra bold flavors, but the difference is reasonably subtle. They're certainly not bland or tasteless. Also, they do taste to me a little sweet and smoky - just as they are described above.

A note about packaging: when I bought a Coffee People 50 pack from Amazon, the K-Cups came in only one box - a thick, corrugated cardboard Coffee People box. Amazon just stuck the mailing labels on the box and gave it to USPS. When this coffee arrived, the K-Cups were in a thin Timothy's cardboard box, which Amazon had put inside one of their standard corrugated cardboard boxes. The upshot is that these Timothy's 50 packs are mailed double-boxed, unlike the Coffee People 50 packs, and so it seems less likely that the Timothy's 50 packs will get damaged in the mail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value Coffee for Keurig, December 10, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Timothy's World Coffee, Breakfast Blend K-Cups for Keurig Brewers, 50 Count Box (Grocery)
I have bought several variety packs and specific roasts from various producers through Amazon, and I have settled on this Breakfast Blend for my primary use. Most of the roast you find for Keurig are bold/dark roasts, and I really do love me some dark roast! Sometimes, though, you need a lighter, less intense brew. For those who are searching for this balance - search no more.

When brewed with the large cup setting, this is a medium bodied consistently good drink. When you want a little more flavor, just brew it on the small setting. It will still be more mellow than most of the palate pounders available right now.

I have bought this breakfast blend in bulk several times now. It is a great value and a great brew.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was it worth it?, March 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Timothy's World Coffee, Breakfast Blend K-Cups for Keurig Brewers, 50 Count Box (Grocery)
I purchased 50 Timothy K Cups, Breakfest Blend. Although we very much enjoyed the taste/quality of the coffee, half of our K-Cups were defective and released so many coffee grounds as to make those cups of coffee undrinkable. In other words, we only got half our money's worth. This is very problematic because although we enjoy this particular blend of coffee we can't afford to discard half our purchase because of defective K-Cups. It would be nice if Amazon.com/Timothy's made good on this purchase. At least then it would be worth our while to make another order and presume that this was an "isolated" defective batch of K-Cups. Otherwise, it is not worth the risk to make the order again. That's a losing proposition for the customer. Customers ought to get what they pay for. Seriously, this just isn't right.
